There’s some new eats available in town. 1548 kitchen, opened last Thursday night at the VFW.
Free to invent his own take on traditional bar-fare, trained chef Cris McElmury and co-cook, Connor Jackson, have created a menu of burgers and appetizers combining tried and true favorites with spicy and unique twists.
Expanding on a patriotic theme and honoring some of the regular veteran patrons, canteen manager Jule Mason and chefs, McElmurry and Jackson are offering an array of specialty burgers with names like the “Merica burger, which is a straight ahead quarter pound of beef with all the fixings, the southern Rebel, with jalapenos, fresh-made guacamole and bacon, the Sgt. Keither burger featuring a quarter pound burger with mushrooms and swiss and the Sonny burger, named after regular Sonny Switzer, which is ground beef patty topped with bacon, cheese and a fried egg.
Of course, there is the usual options of fries, onion rings, poppers, chicken strips and nachos but, the young entrepreneurs have added the option of tater tots instead of tortilla chips and a “North of the Border” appetizer Poutine, which is fried cheese curds and brown gravy.
Offered every day from noon until closing, this new menu promises to help keep folks fed and nourished while they while away the long cold winter nights. Come down and check it out!
