Bold

women in Montana history” with Beth Judy set for Aug. 28

The Libby Friends of the Library will host Montana Conversations program, “Bold Women in Montana History,” with Beth Judy on Wednesday, Aug. 28. The program will be held at the Libby Library from noon until 1 p.m. The presentation, which is this summer’s last Lemonade on the Lawn program will be free and open to the public.

Funding for the Montana Conversations program is provided by Humanities Montana through grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Montana’s Cultural Trust, and private donations.

What does it mean to be bold? Beth Judy will share selected stories of the 15+ women in her book, Bold Women in Montana History, to see how some of our Montana foremothers harnessed their own boldness. These women overcame challenges, thought outside the box, adventured, nurtured, built community, and fought.

Their stories can inspire and lead us in thinking about our challenges today. These women include Blackfeet warrior Running Eagle; African American homesteader and army cook, Annie Morgan; Crow grandmother, author, and culture keeper Pretty Shield; Jeannette Rankin; Butte’s Women’s Protective Union; actress Myrna Loy; rodeo stars Alice and Marge Greenough; Montana state librarian Alma Jacobs; modern artist and rancher Isabelle Johnson; writers Belle and Frieda Fligelman; and accountant and activist Elouise Cobell.

Beth Judy is an author and freelance writer. She has an MFA from the University of Montana and has worked in public health, the arts, public radio, and publishing.

CPMC General Surgery welcomes new provider

Cabinet Peaks Clinic General Surgery is thrilled to welcome Nicole (Niki) Bothman, NP-C to the practice.

Bothman was raised in Northwest Montana and graduated from Flathead High School in Kalispell.  She started working in healthcare when she was 18 years old as a physical therapy aide while studying pre-nursing at Flathead Valley Community College. In 2013, she received a Bachelor of Nursing degree from Montana State University and elected to pursue her passion for rural healthcare by returning to Lincoln County as a registered nurse at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital (now Cabinet Peaks Medical Center). She spent six years working in various departments as a registered nurse including acute care, informatics, and the emergency department while continuing her education.

In 2015, Bothman received a healthcare informatics certificate from Montana Tech and went on to be part of the clinical build team for large electronic health record project at Cabinet Peaks. She elected to return to Montana State University for graduate school in 2016 and received her Doctor of Nursing Practice in the spring of 2019. Her graduate thesis focused on emergency management of critical conditions in the rural setting. Additionally, Bothman has worked with the Flathead Valley Community College Lincoln County Campus nursing department as a clinical resource nurse and says she has enjoyed being part of building a strong foundation for future nurses.

“I have always enjoyed the outdoor opportunities that Northwest Montana has to offer. While in undergraduate nursing school, I developed a passion for rural healthcare and elected to start my nursing career in a rural medical facility, “stated Bothman. “As a former resident of Troy (my mom was a physical therapist for St. John’s in the ‘90s), I was familiar with the area and knew it would continue to offer me the same great recreational opportunities and lifestyle I desired while starting my nursing career.  My favorite part of the area is the accessibility to outdoor recreational opportunities.”

In her spare time, Bothman enjoys hiking, paddle-boarding, kayaking, skiing, hunting, fishing, soccer, travel, home design, and dogs.  She is married with a stepson and 4 dogs.

Two new

replacement stations;

Libby Video Club

Two of our great volunteers, Jim and Randy spent Saturday (August 10th), at the site on Sheldon Mountain replacing the last two stations that we reported were going away.  Due to their efforts we have two new stations, COZJ (2.1) and AMG (6.1) which replaced KREM and KHQ.

They got off the mountain before the thunder and lightning storm. Unfortunately, there was a power outage in Libby on Sunday which made channel 6.1 go offline.  It will take another trip up the mountain to bring it back online.  This will be done as soon as our volunteer’s time allows.  We appreciate your patience and support.

Channel 6.1 is AMGTV which is an American family-oriented television network featuring television programming consisting of drama, sports, movies, entertainment, how-to, hunting and fishing, children’s shows, and other features, much of it repackaged from off-network and first-run syndication. The network is owned by the American company Access Media Group.

AMGTV provides programming to television stations in the United States. AMGTV also syndicates several movie packages and music specials to stations outside their affiliate base.

Channel 2.1 is COZI TV which is NBC’s national multicast network that delivers a 24-hour line-up of TV’s all-time best shows and pop culture favorites, featuring a prime-time block of recent comedy hits. COZI TV’s iconic sitcoms include The Office, Frasier, Will & Grace and The Nanny. Among the network’s many beloved dramas and action series are Columbo, Murder, She Wrote, Little House on the Prairie and many more.

We hope you enjoy these stations as much as we have enjoyed bringing them to you.

Please visit our booth at Nordicfest September 13-15.  There will be a door prize drawing for a TV antenna.  We look forward to seeing you there.
