Always to play at the Dome Theatre

Submitted by NWMT-FFLA

The Dome Theater hosts the “Always” film on June 3rd at 6 pm.
Always is a 1989 American romantic comedy-drama film directed by Steven Spielberg, and starring Richard Dreyfuss, Holly Hunter, John Goodman, Brad Johnson and Audrey Hepburn in her final film role.
Principal photography began on May 15, 1989. Production took place in Kootenai National Forest, Montana, with some scenes filmed in and around Libby, Montana. Some 500 people from nearby Libby were recruited for the film as extras to act as wildland firefighters. The scenes where the plane flies over the lake at the beginning and lands in the lake at the end of the movie was filmed at Bull Lake.
Sponsored by Glacier Bank, Libby & Friends of the Scotchman Peaks Wilderness. The Northwest Montana Forest Fire Lookout Association. (NWMT-FFLA), a nonprofit organization, brings back to Libby, MT and surrounding communities the film “Always”. Showing this film of local interest at the Dome Theater introduces the NWMT-FFLA to the area and generates awareness to the mission they serve on the Kootenai National Forest.
Fire Lookouts once played an important role in fire management across the northwest. Now, fire lookouts serve a much different and broader role. Although some lookouts are still staffed for fire management, many have been turned into rentals through the US Forest Service cabin rental program or are available as shelters on a first come first served basis. Yet still, some have been abandoned and are left to decay unless local interest and support brings them back to life.
The mission of the NWMT-FFLA is to help agencies like the Kootenai National Forest restore and maintain these historic fire lookouts for future generations to enjoy and to cultivate much needed volunteer support.
In addition to the film being played at The Dome movie theater there will be a Libby Fly-in on June 17th.
A group of several private aircraft will be visiting the Libby Airport the morning of Sunday, June 17. The pilots and their passengers will have just shared in the two-day Regional Fly-In hosted by the Missoula Airport June 15th and 16th.  The occasion of the visit to Libby is a recollection of the place and people associated with the production of the 1989 movie Always. Organizers of the visit think that local persons who may have had roles as “extras,” or who remember the event in any way might want join the visitors and share a story, an artifact, or just say “I was there.” Anyone interested in sharing in this informal, fun event please contact Gary Matson gjmatson@montana.com  (406) 370-6584.
