John Alex is a Libby local who served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was honored by U.S. Representative Greg Gianforte on Friday, May 24 at the Libby VFW Post 1548.

Alex is 86 years old now and served in the Air Force for over two decades. Beginning his career in 1953, he retired a Senior Master Sergeant in 1976. He’s served locally as an area school administrator and school board member, as well as a volunteer.

He was honored as part of the Montana Congressional Veteran Commendation presentation. Gianforte started the program in 2017 to recognize outstanding Montana Veterans who have honorably served our beautiful nation and communities.

Many locals came to watch the ceremony as Alex was handed an American flag that has flown over the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Thank you John Alex for your sacrifices and service to not only our nation but our community.
