The Wilderness Survival Fair will be held on Sunday April 28, from noon until 6 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church School (206 Airfield Road, Libby). Wilderness Way Adventures has provided instructor, Mike Lowe for the event.
Wilderness Way Adventures is a nonprofit, outdoor, Christian ministry specializing in wilderness survival, bush craft, and primitive skills.
Lowe has been learning and teaching survival skills professionally since 1980. He began his career as a survival instructor for the U.S. Air Force. He taught pilots and aircrew members how to survive behind enemy lines. In 1988, he launched Wilderness Way Adventures and has taught hundreds of men, women, and children from all walks of life. He has also served the Church as a youth and associate pastor.
Lowe holds an AA in Wilderness Survival, an AA in Search and Rescue, a BA in Pastoral Ministry, and a Master of Theology degree in Biblical Studies. He is a Rescue 3 International certified swift water and technical rope rescue technician and instructor as well as a certified Wilderness First Responder. In 2016 he was a participant on the History Channel’s hit series Alone Season two.
The Wilderness Survival Fair in Libby will be for children and adults and will include:
- Demonstrations and displays
- Active practice of Survival Skills
- Forest Management information
- Drawings for door prizes
- Vendors – non profit and commercial
- Outdoor Gear for sale
- Food Booths
There are many activities planned for children that will be interesting adults as well.
Various booths will include such activities as learning to braid paracord, a knot-tying practice area, painting wilderness pictures, and demonstrations (with hands on practice) of survival techniques such as fire building, shelters in the wilderness, finding your way when lost, and more.
