Senate delays health care vote

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced Saturday he would defer discussion and vote on the Republican health care bill while Sen. John McCain recovers from surgery. McCain’s absence puts passage of the so-called Better Care Act in jeopardy, as some Senate Republicans, including Susan Collins and Rand Paul, have already announced they will not support a motion to advance the bill.


Federer wins eighth Wimbledon title

Tennis legend Roger Federer added another record to his legend last weekend, claiming his eighth Wimbledon title and 19th Grand Slam victory with a 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 sweep of Marin Cilic. He is the first man in history to win eight Wimbledon titles.


Ice shelf breaks loose from Antarctica

A nearly one trillion ton chunk of ice broke loose from the Larsen C ice shelf in Antarctica last week. The ice, named A68, constitutes more than 12 percent of the Larsen C shelf and is estimated to be roughly the size of Delaware.


Florida sinkhole swallows homes

A sinkhole reportedly opened up in Land O Lakes, Fla., and swallowed two homes. The sinkhole is approximately 225 to 250 feet wide and roughly 50 feet deep. In addition to the two homes destroyed by the sinkhole, five additional residences have been evacuated, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office. No injuries have been reported from the incident.


UPS driver saves man after crash

Coy Danner was delivering packages in his UPS truck on Monday, July 10, in Jefferson County, Idaho, when he saw a truck and an SUV collide, pushing the SUV into a nearby canal. Danner jumped out of his truck and into the canal to pull the victim, 52-year-old Wayne Walker, out of the water. Walker was airlifted to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition as of Friday, July 14.
