Obituary – Leland Hansen

Leland Hansen

78, of Libby

Leland R. Hansen, 78, of Libby, passed away at his home on Thursday, July 20, 2017, of natural causes.  He was born Aug. 14, 1938, in Kalispell, to Harold and Clara (Iverson) Hansen.

He grew up in the Rexford area, graduating from Lincoln County High School in Eureka.  He married Judy Butts Cannon and they later divorced.  Leland was a hard worker and over the years he worked at Fewks Grocery in Rexford; J. Neils as a crane operator; St. Regis as a sawyer; and Champion International in the log yard.

Leland loved the northwest and the activities it offers.  He especially enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting with friends and family.  He was always up for telling stories—we’re just not sure if they were all true or not!  He had such a talent for wood working and he loved the time he could spend doing that.  He was a very accomplished wood worker and cabinet maker.  Leland very much enjoyed visits from friends, especially the ones bringing him sweets!  He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Clara Hansen; and a brother, Don Hansen.

Survivors include his children Dean Hansen (Tina) of Missoula; Brien Hansen (Bengie) of Libby; Vera Charland (Todd) of Sandpoint; and Karen Hansen (Jeff Langevin) of Libby; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his brother, Hal Hansen; his long-time partner and friend, Sue Jantz and her three children, Pattie Thompson (Joe) of Oklahoma; Michele Hills of Kalispell; and Jeff Jantz (Teri) of Nevada; and Sue’s eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services for Leland will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Libby Christian Church.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wings.  Arrangements are under the care of Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home & Crematory of Libby.  Online condolences and memories may be shared by visiting www.schnackenbergfh.com.
