The Kootenai River Development Council (KRDC) is making major headway on the New Haul Road Park.

In the summer of 2018 the KRDC secured the funds to rebuild road surfaces through a Recreational Trails Program Grant.

The road, which was highly unstable and had frequent washouts and drainage issues, is now safe and ready for foot traffic and cyclists to enjoy.

Kootenai River Development Council, Inc., is a private nonprofit corporation incorporated and acting under the laws of the State of Montana. The organization is governed by a Board of Directors.

Board member, Tina Oliphant said, “We have reached the final phase of the Port Authority clean up of the one mile Haul Road.”

They have created a wide walking trail that connects to other trails providing an optimal outdoor experience for our community and it’s visitors.

In addition to the trail, the park has been landscaped and grass is being planted. Picnic tables, a porta-potty, sign-in kiosk, bike rack, and benches will also be added.

KRDC is currently working on a handful of projects and plans for future projects which include:

  • Rail Rehabilitation for the Kootenai Business Park
  • Shay Steam Locomotive (working with Heritage Museum
  • Libby Troy 20/20
  • Master Trail Plan for Greater Libby Area
  • Visitor Assessment

KRDC Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month. For more information, contact  Tina Oliphant at 293-8406
