Despite a few Zoom meetings to discuss logistics, the group’s first rehearsal was on November 29, less than a day before their first performance at Bandfest, a preview event for the parade in which all the marching bands perform a field show. They also played during the float judging event, as well as during the parade. Overall, the band directors involved had a staggering 4500 years of teaching experience, and that obviously showed in being able to pull off such an impressive feat with so little practice together. They were so good that the Tournament of Roses Parade has asked them back.
For England, the best part was getting to work with so many other great music professionals. Sometimes feeling a bit professionally isolated as the only music teacher in her district, England found the experience rewarding. “I realized that I am part of that group.”
The project also proved rewarding for the directors’ students and children in general. The band directors, during their interactions, discussed service projects that their bands would be doing. As part of one, the Tournament of Roses BandCares event in California, members helped to collect books to donate to LeVar Burton’s child literacy initiative. The Job Service Employer Committee Presentation, Feb. 15
The Job Service Employer Committee and Montana Department of Revenue will host a presentation on Montana Business Tax Updates, Montana Wage Withholdings, and Cannabis Taxes.
The presentation will be held at Henry’s Restaurant from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on February 15. Meeting will also be available via ZOOM.
