Ben Graham was a dedicated golfer in Libby High School before his graduation in 1973. He’s even a big part of the school’s hall of fame. By 1978, he was a pro having been an NCAA All-American for three years.
When his life ended at only 30 years old in 1985, he was a teacher at a golf school in Stratton, Vermont. His students and everyone who knew him where more than devastated.
Since his death, the Ben Graham Memorial Tournament has honored Graham’s commitment to golf and youth interest in the sport.
This year’s event has been rescheduled for June 7 through 9, due to recent weather conditions. Cabinet View Country Club and tournament organizers hope for nicer weather during these days.
The tournament will open with an optional practice round on Friday evening and a derby following directly afterwards at 5:30 p.m. Saturday morning rounds will begin at 8 a.m. Participants are encouraged to call the clubhouse to make their group or ask to be added to one. Sunday morning will start off with the reintroduction of a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Dinner will be provided in the evening of Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
Entry fees will be the same as in previous years with members paying $70, non-members paying $90, and professionals paying $130. The event will also have $50 amateur KPs on Saturday and Sunday on the par 3 holes. This year, long drive will have an extra $100 in prize money.
Proceeds of the tournament will support youth golf in Libby.
