Sheriff Dispatched to Disturbance
On May 21, 2023 the Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a residence in Libby, at approximately 1:01 am, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office dispatch received a report of a disturbance involving a male with a weapon at a private residence in Libby, MT.
Upon arrival, deputies learned that several individuals had been threatened by a male, identified as 36-year-old Chase Butala, with a weapon and a female had been assaulted. The persons who had been threatened were interviewed and left the scene. Butala and the female were still inside the residence.
Multiple attempts were made to contact Butala who would not come to the door or speak with deputies. LCSO contacted the Northwest Regional SWAT Team and requested assistance. Upon their arrival, continued attempts were made to contact Butala. Receiving no response, the decision was made to breach the front door to make contact.
Upon entry, Butala surrendered to SWAT team members and was transported to the Lincoln County Detention Center. Butala is currently charged with assault and aggravated assault pending further investigation.
