Lacey Hemman, PTA, SSC, in the Cabinet Peaks Medical Center Rehabilitative Services Department, recently completed her certification as a Specialist in Strength and Conditioning through the International Sports Science Association (ISSA).

According to the ISSA, the Specialist in Strength and Conditioning program is designed to prepare graduates to develop training programs that allow athletes to expand the capacity of their bodies to perform the most difficult athletic feats while remaining strong and free from injury.  Along with the foundations of strength conditioning, graduates learn the principles of athletic assessment, programming for special sports, season periodization, athletic nutrition, and sports psychology.  The course outline includes classes in anatomy, physiology, assessment, principles of training and adaptation, endurance training, strength development, sport specific training, nutrition, psychology, and injury.

“The Specialist in Strength and Conditioning course is an athletic based training certification with specific techniques to enable athletes to expand the capacity of their bodies, while remaining strong and injury free,” stated Hemman.  She continued, “I am excited to help both student athletes and athletes of all ages increase their athletic performance and reach their fitness goals.  This certification will help implement a new technique to facilitate injury prevention and strengthening for the communities of Libby and Troy.”

Hemman has been working in the Physical Therapy field for four years, and has been with Cabinet Peaks for two years.

“I am proud of Lacey’s determination to further her knowledge and expertise in the field of strengthening and conditioning for the sports oriented patient,” stated Lori Benson, MPT, and Rehabilitative Services Manager at CPMC.  “Lacey continues to represent CPMC Rehab with the Libby High School athletes providing education on injury and injury prevention.  This certification adds more specific skills and ability to guide the athlete through training and injury recovery.”
