On May 26, the Halfway House and the CARD Foundation held the first of a new annual event, Duck Races.

The winners were:

  • First place, Bob Baumann who won half of the pot – $430, and he was SO excited.
  • Second place, Jay Jones, who won a $50 gift card to the Switchback.
  • Third place, Kristi Nisson who won a $25 gift card to the Halfway House

According to Donna Williams, Administrative Director of the CARD Foundation, the idea originated in a board meeting with Jon Roberts, the Vice President of the foundation who made the suggestion.

“We partnered with the Halfway House because Jason Williams is our Treasurer and he suggested we could do it out there the same weekend as their annual car show. Payne Creek runs next to the Halfway and goes under their new outside deck. It was a great vantage point for participants to watch their ducks race down the creek,” said Williams.

They didn’t sell the ducks very long and made a total of $890, half of that was given to the first place winner. They sold 95 ducks that raced down Payne Creek.

When asked how they plan to use the money Williams had this to say, “We’re looking into possibly creating a scholarship fund with the money, but that’s not yet been decided, it’s on the agenda for our next meeting to discuss. Stay tuned for more details as we make a determination about what we will use the money for.”
